Some Sparkle: My Updated Skincare Routine-July 2012

Hey everyone!  Happy friday…again!  Recently I have been loving my skincare routine, so I thought I’d share it with you (:  All products can be found at the drugstore.  Using these three products, my skin has been pretty darn clear!  I’m really glad!  It hasn’t been this clear forever!  It’s weird because none of the products are really stand out to me, but they must be doing something special!

For a cleanser, I use Neutrogena Ance Wash Cream Cleanser.  It is the first cream cleanser I’ve tried, and I must say, it is a little strange.  It has two percent salicylic acid in it, so it’s great for a teen…and for a cream cleanser it is pretty watery and spreads easily.  I’m not too sure how I feel about it, but it does the job of a decent cleanser!

For a toner, I use the Neutrogena Acne Stress Control Triple Action Toner.  For all of the toners I’ve used, it is probably about medium strength, and it pretty nice!  It smells just like the cleanser which is sort of strange…I know they are by the same brand, but not from the same line!  Anyways, the smell doesn’t matter!  Haha.  When I first got it, I wasn’t really used to there being a but of a residue left on my skin, but I did get used to it in about three uses.  It does say to apply a thin coat on the bottle, so I am wondering if that was my problem!

For a scrub, I actually don’t have anything at the moment, but I really want to repurchase the Neutrogena Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Foaming Scrub.  I love this stuff!  It is gentle enough to use as an everyday cleanser too, because that is what I used it for for a while, and really enjoyed it, but my skin sort of needed a bit of a break from using a scrub everyday!

For a lotion, I use the Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer.  I really like this stuff!  I have used it before, and it makes my skin really soft!  I really want to check out moisturizers from the Body Shop though, because a viewer recommended them to me!  I haven’t been going to the mall lately, so that’s why I couldn’t try them.  But I will let you guys know about that when I do end up picking one up from the Body Shop.

And, lastly, I thought I would just include my lip balm!  I use the EOS Sweet Mint Lip Balm, and I love this stuff!  It has lasted me about a year, and now I’m going through a second ball!  They are pretty popular on YouTube, and I can see why!  I feel like the lasting power isn’t that great, but I love the convenience of the packaging and the smell!  The smell is of mint, just like it says, and I have always loved mint lip balm.

Anyways, I have to go, but I will talk to you guys soon!

Let me know what your stand out skincare products are!  Have you ever tried out these products?

Here’s my last Some Sparkle: DIY Stackable Bracelets: Woven Chunky Chain

DIY Stackable Bracelet: Woven Chunky Chain

Hey guys! So, you know how obsessed I am with stacking bracelets for the spring and summer.  I have talked about it before, and if you follow my CraftGawker or Pinterest, then you know that I have been saving tons of pictures of them.  Well, I came across one by a blogger that goes by “Honestly WTF”, and I fell in love.  They have amazing tutorials and DIYs on their blog, so check them out!  Anyways, they call it the “DIY Woven Chain Bracelet”.  So, I tried the tutorial, and I made my own!

[More information]  I was so terrified to try it, because it looks so difficult, but it was actually really simple and easy.  There’s no braiding with your hands involved, just weaving the thread back and forth in between the links of the chain.  So, I went off to a local craft store, and got some chain and embroidery thread!  It was also really fast to make.  I usually make my bracelets in the matter of a few days because I get bored and tired really fast, but I did this all in one standing.  It does use a lot of thread, so I recommend buying separate thread just for this project.  You can get a bunch of thread in a pack from the dollar store, and chain from any craft store, they are very easy to find.  I am not sure the size of chain that I used, but you’ll see it in a picture.  Here’s the instructions!  I really love it and recommend making it for yourself or for a gift!  Haha, I’ve made four already!  They are under ten dollars for at least five.

You need:
-Any big chain.  You can get these in gold, rose gold, black, and silver I believe.  This would also look cool with coloured chain if you can find some!  Just make sure it has big links.  You can get a meter of this for around 8 dollars.
-Two bobby pins.  They will not get wrecked, and it just makes it a lot easier!!
-Two shades of embroidery thread.  You can also double up the shades, so have four (or more) instead of two, but combine two and two. These can be easily found at any dollar store for around a dollar, or any craft store.
-Scissors!
-A clip board!  Oh my gosh so easy!   You can use tape or a safety pin and secure it to your jeans too, but it just isn’t as easy as a clip board.

1. [Preparation] OK, so to start off, you will need to take off a piece of the chain if you bought like a meter like I did.  Measure your wrist with the chain, and pull off the exact amount.  Now, take the thread and you need four times the size of the chain, 7-15 times for each colour.  (If you are confused, check out the original!!).  Tie the two thread sections together, and clip it to your clipboard.  Separate the two colours.  Take the two bobby pins and put them round each set of colours.  Lay the chain beside the thread.

2.  Now, take the bobby pin that is on the section of the thread closest to the chain, and pull it through the first chain link.  Once it is pulled all the way through, put the thread back to where it was before, except now it will be weaved with the chain.  Now, put the other set of thread over the set that just got weaved, and pull that through the same link.  Once again, put it out beside the chain to where it was before, and take the other set of threads and put it over the set you just weaved, and pull it through the next chain link using the bobby pin.  Each set of threads should go through one chain link once each.  Repeat the process until you have gone through every chain link with both sets of thread.

Pull the first set (purple&teal) through the first link with the bobby pin.

Pull the second set (blue&green) over the first set (purple&teal).

Pull the second set (blue&green) through the first link.

Pull the first set (purple&teal) over the second set (green&blue).

Pull the first set (purple&teal) through the second link and pull the second set (blue&green) over the first set (purple&teal). [Repeat!]

Pull the second set (blue&green) through the second chain link and pull the first set (purple&teal) over the first set (blue&green).

Pull the first set (purple&teal) through the chain link. Now, pull the second set (blue&green) over the first set (purple&teal). As I said, repeat until you are done with all of the links!

3. Once you are finished with all of the links, tie it!

Tie the knot!

Haha, I’ve made four!

You can also make it with smaller chain, which I did here.  I have also made one where I did double sides.  They look great!

There are so many different colour combinations that are possible, and they look great with whatever you’re wearing!  I hope you enjoyed the tutorial, and let me know if you try this!   Bye.

Some Sparkle: My Nail, Hair, and Skin Care Routines!

Hi!  I’m going to be telling you what I do and what products I use daily on my nails, skin, and hair.

I usually shower at night, so I sleep with my hair mostly damp, depending on what time it is.   So, for my shampoo and conditioner, it usually changes.  Currently I am using Nexxus Sleekstress shampoo, and Joico Silk Result Conditioner.  I’m not a huge fan of either of them, but they’re OK.  I haven’t found a favourite conditioner yet, but my favourite shampoo is Joico Silk Result.  I have went through about four bottles already, and I just really like it.  I have tried the Joico K Pak Reconstruct Shampoo, but didn’t really like it as much as my favourite, and it’s always sold out where I get it!  After the shower, once my hair is about halfway dry, I use John Freida Root Awakening on the roots and upper half of my hair just for some extra nutrients.  This product doesn’t way my hair down, and I don’t notice much of a difference, but it is good for my hair, and keeps some of the tangles away, so I use it!  After that, I use Moroccan Oil Styling Cream on the ends of my hair.  Afterwards, I brush my hair out.  Sometimes I will use John Freida Secret Weapon if my hair is being a little annoying after that, but mostly it is all good.  That is it for my hair routine!  Some people use like 20 products on it, but I am fortunate enough to only use two or three on a daily basis.  I don’t think that’s it’s good for your hair to use that many products, and I honestly can’t see any difference by the time the day is already halfway through.

OK, onto nails.  I usually paint my nails every two or three days, and I do certain things to my nails every once and a while.  I wouldn’t really call this a routine, but it is what do to care for my nails.  Mostly in the winter, when my nails are dry, I use cuticle oil on them whenever I feel like it!  I told you, it’s not really a routine.  About every two weeks, I will push back and cut my cuticles.  I really need to get a cuticle removing gel, because I know it’s not good to cut back your cuticles, but they get kind of disgusting…anyways.  I will sometimes use a base coat and top coat too.  I will get in little stages where I use them every time I paint my nails for like a month, and then get too lazy.  Anyways, I use OPI Chip Skip first, then OPI Nail Envy, the polish, and then OPI Top Coat.

And, the last one, my skin.  I try to wash my face twice a day, but honestly it’s just usually once!  I know it’s bad, but I am just too tired in the mornings…Anyways, at night, I wash my face with I believe Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Acne Scrub….I don’t know the name of it!  Probably about half of the time I use Clinique Face Wash afterwards.  I know it’s not good for your skin to use a scrub everyday, but it’s pretty gentle, and my skin is not sensitive towards it, so I use it!  This stuff is a miracle man!  Haha, I think it’s just the fact that it has 2% salicylic acid in it, and that’s why it works great.  It’s easy to get, from the drugstore, and feels great!  I’m not a huge fan of the scent because it is pretty overwhelming, but I’ve gotten used to it.  After I wash my face, I use either Clinique Clairifying Lotion (toner) or Biore Toner.  Then, I use any moisturizer…haha the one I’m using isn’t that great.  Any recommendations for a new one!?

So, that’s it!  I hope you got some ideas from this!  It’s pretty simple, but the products are great!  Talk to you very soon!  Bye!
