My Summer Listenings 2013

Hey there!  Happy July!

So it is no secret I adore listening to music, especially during my free summer months.  Without giving you my playlist of fifty two songs I suggest you may like, I thought I would just pick a top few to feature!  If you’re in the same boat as me, give these songs a listen!

My “Little Things” Jar

Hello to all, and happy Saturday!  So about a month and a half ago I made a ‘little things 2013’ jar.  I saw a picture of the idea ages ago, and I love little things like this.  Writing in a journal, blogging, quote jars, memory jars, memory boxes, stuff like that.  I just adore the feeling you get when you look at something from years ago that you completely forgot about.  The idea of this is to write little things that happen throughout your day onto a slip of paper (with the date), and put them into this jar.  Once the year is over, you’re aloud to look at them again.  ‘Little things’ don’t include the big events in your life, like getting a new car, or prom, they are just the little things that made your day.  If nothing really special happened that day or that week, you don’t have to write anything.  A couple examples of mine are ‘movie marathon weekend; watched LOL, The Last Song, Friends With Benefits, Monte Carlo’, or ‘exploring the library with my english class, joking & telling stories about the books’, or ‘making it through every light without stopping on way home from school’ (yes that was a big deal because you have no idea how long it takes me to get home.  I’m so cool.).  I love the idea of this because chances are, you will forget all of the small positive things by the end of the year, so they sort of just make you smile while thinking back to your memories.

I hope you all have an amazing weekend!  Leave a comment below telling me if you have one of these, or if you’re going to try it!  I’d love to hear some of your thoughts!

Talk soon.

Liv’s Life: Current Favourites, What I’m Up To, And My Thoughts

I am so, so, so, so, sorry it’s been this long!  So ridiculous!  But, I’ve started a new semester, and it’s been so full force all February.  In all of my classes I’ve had multiple tests/quizes/assignments, and I have been reading To Kill A Mockingbird for class, which I have just finally finished.  I know, I know, no excuses….but sometimes school life just tends to take over!  On top of all of this I have headaches a few times a week, so that kills everything, and I have other things I have to do as a part of a daily routine.

Another thing to apologize for…a lack of ‘me’ posts.  I’m not sure how much you guys like my update posts (just about me), but I think it’s important to do them once in a while, and it is where my blog started.  I have been writing in a journal almost everyday since October, and I have just been expressing lots of deeper thoughts into it, and then posting more DIY & Fashion posts on here.  I don’t always feel like writing about me on my blog and then repeating everything but in a more personal manner in my ‘diary’.  But that’s not the point of this post….

I just wanted to share some things that I’ve been doing, and some favourites!

So I have probably mentioned a few times in my posts that I have not been very good emotionally & mentally the past few months.  High school has hit me hard.  It’s not just the school work, (I can deal with that), it’s the people.  Going into high school, I lost the majority of my friends purely because we didn’t have any classes together.  We drifted.  And since just recently I always was waiting for people to talk to me.  Well, apparently that’s not how life works, and if you want something you have to get it.  At least for fourteen year olds.  So, I’ve branched out.  Olivia’s OUTGOING!?  What!?  Not exactly ‘outgoing’, but not so quiet.  I have never been outgoing because I never want to disrupt the teacher during class, but it’s just the little things….partaking into a conversation with people you don’t know can really pay off.  YOU broke the ice, and they will remember YOU for it.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m still a very awkward person, and I’m trying to deal with that.  It’s just now that I’ve really realized that I have to change myself a little (in a good way) to get some people to like me (the real me).  So, yeah, that’s what I’ve been dealing with daily.

Apart from ‘the deep end’, I’ve been still watching lots of british youtubers and stuff like that. They are hilarious, and I, admittingly, am a ‘Zalfie’ lover.  Zoe and Alfie are my favourites, and I feel like they are in the early stages of when I watched Luke & Ingrid’s daily vlogs.  Hehe.  I also have been tumbling a bit, which you can see here!  I love tumblr!  It’s really inspirational and I have gotten many ideas from there.  I also just love to go an look on my page sometimes and see what I’ve reblogged.  It’s sort of like my life in pictures, but not my pictures….if that makes sense…

Another thing that has been taking up a bit of my life is my room!  I changed my room up a month ago, and since then have not stopped doing things to it and searching for future projects to do.  I am going to do my macaron painting, which I have already started drawing, get a bulletin board, move some things around, get two new pieces of furniture, and a quote board!  I will absolutely be doing an updated room tour because A LOT has changed surprisingly for only about two months since my last one.

I have been listening to soooooo much music lately, you would not believe it!  I guess I just haven’t updated you with my favourite songs for a while now, so I am going to start with my music favourites of the moment.  Long Live by Taylor Swift has definitely made it’s way on the list.   It makes me a little more positive about going to high school everyday.  I read that it is a song about her band full of average people becoming ‘the populars’ once they’re on stage, but I think it’s more of a graduation song to be honest!  I hope I still like it 3.5 years from now in my senior year!  Haha, I didn’t buy it for like a week because I was convincing myself that I had to wait until I was graduating, but that is just ridiculous.  Yep.

I’ve started reading “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”, and was searching up advertisements for the movie, and noticed there was a song I really liked, so I bought it.  Haha, not really how to explain how I purchase my music sounding exciting.  I went to iTunes, searched the title, and bought it.  So exciting!  It’s “It’s Time” by Imagine Dragons.  It’s just one of those songs that you’ve probably heard before, just never thought twice about it.

The last song I have to talk about it ‘Sympathy’ by The Goo Goo Dolls.  When I was little, I was a MASSIVE Hilary Duff fan, and of course I have watched A Cinderella Story probably thirty times in my lifetime, and I always thought the soundtrack was AMAZING!  Good job, song-pickers!  This song is one I have always admired in the movie, never forgot about it, just never thought to buy it.  But I did and I like it!  I also have been thinking about getting “I’ll Be” and “Hear You Me” both from that movie, but I’m not too sure.

So, I just wanted to say thank you for reading and sticking with me…with March Break (and summer!) on it’s way, I will be posting more frequently I’m sure.  Plus, with the spring & summer weather comes spring & summer themed posts!  Thank you, thank you, thank you!  Talk soon!

My New Project For 2013

Ever since my last semester, taking art has made me a little more creative and want to make art on my own time.  I did a couple of projects that I really enjoyed, and now that it’s semester two, and I don’t have art, I am going to start my own art project!  I am so excited!  The title of this post is ‘my new project for 2013’ because this is going to take me a long, long time to do.  I thought I would share my painting with you along the way of me painting it, and then show you the final result when it’s finally finished.

I re-arranged my furniture in my room a few weeks ago, and now I have a nice big blank wall beside my bed.  (I will be doing an updated room tour when I get everything finished because everything has changed a lot since December!).  I have watched arose186’s videos for about two years now, and I also follow her instagram.  I know she really loves art, and I enjoy looking through her pictures of paintings she’s completed, and just her edgy-arty style.  She posted a picture of a painting of macarons she did, and I immediately fell in love with it.  It’s been on my bucket list to paint something for a while now, and having a little experience from my class, I decided to take a huge leap, and try it!  So, I am going to attempt to paint something similar to this.

8706130c6ee211e28cc022000a9f308d_7

I am not going to completely copy hers, because I do want it to be somewhat original, just inspired by this.  The reason why I like this painting so much is because I went to Paris last April, and macarons are a huge thing there.  When you go out of your continent (and especially to Europe!), it becomes a little special thing for you, and macarons are a cute little reminder of my trip.  I actually don’t like macarons very much, but they are a very pretty food…if that makes sense….(they are constantly on tumblr…), and they come in tons of colours that will match my room!

I have been searching tons of pictures of macaron stacks, and colours, and I have a bit of an idea of what I’m going to do.  I have most of the colours picked out, and I have an idea of a size of canvas, and I know I’m using acrylics, but I haven’t done any sketching, or anything yet.  Plus, I don’t have any supplies because I have never done any art really at home, just in school.  The reason why I say it’ll be my 2013 project is because the supplies aren’t cheap, and I am not always very good at art.  I’m not too worried about the painting part because I just did an acrylic painting about a month ago, but it wasn’t as detailed as the macarons are going to be.  And another issue that comes to mind is that I want the canvas to be huge, so it’s going to have to be a nice painting, and it’ll take a long time to do!  Haha, I’ve never done a painting like this, so I’m a little scared.  But for the new year I have really just wanted to set my mind to something, and do it, and this is something I really wanted to do the minute I saw her picture.  My Aunt is an artist (painter), so I’m sure I can get some tips & tricks from her.

I love how edgy the colour brings in, along with the contrast of the background.  It’s going to look awesome on my wall!  I’m thinking about turquoises, (of course), browns, purples, pinks, yellows, and maybe some periwinkle…whatcha think?

This will take me a while I’m sure, but I’d like to take you along my little “I’m-not-so-good-at-this-whole-art-thing” journey.  So when I start sketching, and purchasing the things I will show you!  And then I will post pictures of the progress of my actual painting too.  I am expecting me to start actually paint probably around May, because I wanted to get the sketches and colour scheme perfect, plus I am busy with school!

But yeah, this is my project/goal for 2013.  Do you have a goal or project for the year?  Let me know in a comment!  I’d love to hear some ideas!  I’m always into the whole bucket-listy things.  Speaking of that, I’ve started a [life] bucket list, and maybe I’ll share with you what I have so far in a little while!  Thank you to Arden for the inspiration, go check her out!  Talk to you soon.

My Favourite Tumblr Blogs

I made a tumblr a few months back, and since then, I’ve been slightly addicted.  I like to reblog lots of pictures…like cats, sparkly things, quotes, T. Swift, vintage-y things, interior design stuff, fashion, parisian goodness, things I’m drooling over, you know.

Although I love posting pictures and pictures of things I love, you can see them all on my tumblr, linked here!

But, the point of this post is not to just share my tumblr, it’s to share some of my favourite tumblrs!  I have so, so many, but I have managed to narrow it down.  I’m also constantly finding more and more I like, but these are just the ones that I mainly think of.  Click the URLs to see their blogs!

1. Meghanrosette.tumblr.com.  She has been one of my favourite youtubers for a REALLY long time now, and ever since I fell in love with tumblr, I’ve been loving her pictures.  And, I just recently discovered that she has another tumblr, for her poetry, and she’s an amazing writer!  I used to be really into poetry myself, but then I sort of fell out of it, I guess.  She has inspired me into getting back into it!  She has the exact same style as me, so click here to read a few of her poems/descriptive stories!

2. Arose186.tumblr.com.  Arden has also been one of my favourites for a REALLY long time, and we have very similar taste.  I am getting more into art, and her tumblr is very arty because she is an AMAZING artist.  I will be doing a post on that coming up soon.  Another very fashion-y, girly blog.

3. classy-lovely.tumblr.com.  The URL says it, a super classy blog.  This person has amazing taste, and she blogs beautiful classy fashion & beauty.

4. daisy-y.tumblr.com.  This blog is a little different from the others.  All of her reblogs are very fresh, colourful, and summery.  It’s really fun to just browse through her pictures in the winter time especially because it reminds you of how much you miss summer…oopsie.

5. cafe-a-la-enchantment.tumblr.com.  Another very fresh, girly blog, but this one isn’t all fashion, it’s lots of decor and colour.

6. allthingsgirlyandbeautiful.tumblr.com.  Very similar to #5.  A bit of a different style, but lots of colour and pretty things.

7. girlinawhimsicalland.tumblr.com.  I believe I did a post on Elle’s tumblr a while ago.  I love her tumblr mainly because of her beautiful pictures and her writing.  She is so inspiring.

8. zoella.tumblr.com.  Gotta add her in!  I’ve been literally addicted to british youtubers, and her tumblr is awesome too!  She posts a lot of her own pictures, and it’s like a little behind the scenes peek into her life outside YouTube.  She is (dare I say it!!) my all time favourite YouTuber…or at least top two…and her tumblr as I said is one of my favourites (obviously).  ;)

9. finnharries.tumblr.com & jacksgap.tumblr.com.  Along with the british youtuber theme, I’ve gotta add them in here.  Have you guys seen their newest video!?  Finn is FAKE!?  Haha, I don’t think it’s real at all.  I’m curious to see what they have to say when they are going to tell the truth.  Anyways, I just put them both into one because they are twins, and do a lot of the same things together.  They have an amazing life, taking trips everywhere, and they are friends with my other favourite YouTubers.  They also post a lot of their own photos, and they are great photographers, so it’s interesting to see what they are posting next!

10. southern-charmer.tumblr.com.  And lastly, another girly, pretty tumblr.

So, that’s about it for today.  I really tried at getting screenshots of everyone’s blogs in here, but it keeps saying error…I’ll have to see what I can do about that this weekend…this is not the first time it happened.  Technical difficulties here!

Pictures from by tumblr, but originally from here, here, here, and here.

DIY Beauty/Fashion Collage

Hello!  So sorry I haven’t been posting for a week!  Oopsie!  January has being pretty nuts for me…and it’s going to continue to be like that all the way through.  I have EXAMS.  Yep.  Just to get an idea, yesterday I had a science test, today I had a science test, tomorrow I have a french exam, monday I have a french exam, monday I have a geography quiz, sometime in here I am going to have another french quiz, a french exam on friday, a geography exam the next friday after that, and then my other two exams on that next monday and tuesday.  GOODNESS.  So I’ve gotta get studying!  The exam that I have on Monday, it’s a 3 minute long presentation in french that I’ve been memorizing, so I have been a little stressed with that.  Oh, and then I start a new semester on Feb. 5th, which is my easy semester with English, Business, Math, and Family Studies.  Thank goodness I got science and french over with.  Haha, so I apologize if I won’t be posting very frequently throughout the month…I’m not dead!  I’m just…consumed with craziness.

So, what I’m sure you are here for…

My collage!  I have a collage that I made about a year ago in my room, and I am doing a full post on it!  I’m going to share my tips, and ideas, and a few close-up pictures of mine.

To be honest I don’t even know where I got the idea from to make one of these, it was so long ago!  And I wanted to say that I have also started making one with birds from Birds And Blooms magazines for a birthday present for my Aunt and Uncle…so they don’t have to be just beauty…you can use whatever clippings you’d like!

Here are a few things I’ve learned that I want to share!  These are just what I did with mine, but obviously you can customize your’s however you desire.

  • Make clean cuts!  Go around the image neatly and evenly to make it look nice and neat.
  • Don’t worry about overlapping, but don’t do it too much.  When you get almost done, you sometimes will have some little spots to fill up, but pick and choose the right sizes of pictures so that they try to fit well in the blank space.
  • Try to fill up as much area as you can, but once again, don’t overlap too much.
  • Remember that you can change up the angles of things for a cool look.
  • All sizes welcome!  I think a collage looks better with lots of sizes of images cut out.
  • Even out the colours.  I liked to make it sort of all even, and not too dark in one place, or too pink in another.
  • Keep in mind that when you are done your eye might go to one single thing, and you want to be sure that you really like that thing.  Don’t make the focal point something that you don’t love.
  • Even out the sizes too!  Make sure there aren’t huge things in one spot, and little things in the other.
  • Keep in mind that if you are framing it, the frame will cover up the edges a little.
  • Do you want writing or no writing?  I liked an even mix of both.
  • Keep a large garbage bin right beside you so that you can just lean over it while you are cutting the images for an easy clean up!
  • If you are looking for really little things to fill up some space, you can use words you like.  For example ‘blush’, or ‘Nordstrom’ to fill out the little spots.

And my last and final tip…the most important in my opinion…

  • Make sure that you love every single thing you cut out.

That is what made mine so special to me.  I really went through tons of magazines, and picked out things that I really liked or that sort of had a story to them.  I really can’t say that I dislike ANYTHING on my collage.  This is what made it the most time consuming for me.  I always found things that I loved, but there would be like article writing over them and I didn’t use them…haha.

By the way, I did this collage in sort of two periods.  I worked on it for a few months, and then took a long break, and then got into it again.  I just used old magazines from around my house and a bristol board.

Anyways, enough with this, here it is!

I have seriously gotten so many compliments on this thing!  I just can never stop looking at it whenever I’m getting ready in the morning.

Thanks for reading!  Talk to you soon, and please let me know if you make one or have one!  Bye!
