I’m on a collage rampage

Hello, all!

With the new season approaching, I’ve been inspired to change up a few things in my room.  First: wall decor.  On tumblr, I’m constantly seeing various types of collages, wether it be in a frame, on a desktop background, or on a wall.  I’ve always been a little unsure of using tonnes of masking tape to tack up pictures on my poor painted walls, however, I recently found Removable Mounting Squares by Scotch Tape, and they are my new heaven sent.  I will be embarking on a new project of my own; here’s my inspiration…

And, here’s the beginning to my very own.

I will update you when it starts coming along, which I’m sure won’t be too long!  I will also take this time to apologize for my absence, which has become a pretty regular thing–I’m well aware.  I am hoping to get a new video up soon (any ideas?).  Happy almost-spring!

DIY Chalkboard Quote Door

So, a while ago I saw two pictures…

and this sort of happened…

To give you a low-down of what I did, basically it was really simple and easy to do.  I transformed my closet door to an inspiration chalkboard for about $15.  I went to Michael’s, and purchased plain black chalkboard paint, which you can find here.  And then, I got paintbrushes and chalk!  You can probably guess what happened next.  I painted it and then wrote on it!  (Well, this is after you know, paying, and then driving home, and then walking in the door, and then getting to my room, and then yeah..).  So, I painted three coats on the originally white door, and it’s perfectly opaque.  When I started writing on it with the chalk, I did come across an issue, which is a bit of a downfall to this project.  The chalk is so hard on the board that it occasionally scratches the paint off, and reveals the white beneath the black.  That kind of sucks, but I guess it’s a pretty easy fix.  Aside from that, it is great!  I am hoping to change out some of the quotes sometime soon, and I’ve even seen this picture that I might try out…

…which is the lyrics to one of my favourite songs, Drops of Jupiter by Train.  There really are so many options that you could do with this, so it’s a great summer project!  Here are a couple more pictures of my own door.

You may be able to see that the purple Y from ‘you’ is slightly smudged, which I guess is another downfall, but, it happens!

Anyways, I hope you guys enjoyed seeing this little project I did a while ago, and PLEASE let me know if you try anything else like it!  Talk soon!

My “Little Things” Jar

Hello to all, and happy Saturday!  So about a month and a half ago I made a ‘little things 2013’ jar.  I saw a picture of the idea ages ago, and I love little things like this.  Writing in a journal, blogging, quote jars, memory jars, memory boxes, stuff like that.  I just adore the feeling you get when you look at something from years ago that you completely forgot about.  The idea of this is to write little things that happen throughout your day onto a slip of paper (with the date), and put them into this jar.  Once the year is over, you’re aloud to look at them again.  ‘Little things’ don’t include the big events in your life, like getting a new car, or prom, they are just the little things that made your day.  If nothing really special happened that day or that week, you don’t have to write anything.  A couple examples of mine are ‘movie marathon weekend; watched LOL, The Last Song, Friends With Benefits, Monte Carlo’, or ‘exploring the library with my english class, joking & telling stories about the books’, or ‘making it through every light without stopping on way home from school’ (yes that was a big deal because you have no idea how long it takes me to get home.  I’m so cool.).  I love the idea of this because chances are, you will forget all of the small positive things by the end of the year, so they sort of just make you smile while thinking back to your memories.

I hope you all have an amazing weekend!  Leave a comment below telling me if you have one of these, or if you’re going to try it!  I’d love to hear some of your thoughts!

DIY Collage Desktop Background

Happy Sunday!  So a while back, I found this image of someone’s desktop background on tumblr, and instantly thought I need one…typical me.

I thought it was a great idea to have a collage of all your favourite images instead of just one.  You can do this with just about as many pictures as you want, but I went with 16.  So, I searched around, and I’ve made one of my own!

I just have some things that either inspire me, or my favourite things on there.  It is always interesting to look at, and I can constantly make more and more, and change it up whenever I’d like.  They are really easy to make and play with in PicMonkey.

To start, go to www.picmonkey.com and click on “Create A Collage”.  Click on “Layouts” on the left, and then click on “Square Deal”.

For mine, I chose the third option, which gives you 16 pictures to work with.

To begin placing pictures, all you have to do is click and drag them onto your desktop, and then click “Open Photos” from the “Photos” button on the left.  Choose your picture, and then drag it onto the collage.

Repeat these steps of dragging to desktop, opening it in picmonkey, and then dragging it onto the collage, until you’ve filled it!  You can also make some pictures bigger/smaller like in the original image I showed above.  You can do this by clicking the pace around the image, and dragging it the way you’d like it.

If you’d like there to be no spaces around the pictures (no borders), you can click on the “Spacing” slider which is found in the “Background” menu on the left, and drag it all the way to 0.

Screen shot 2013-02-24 at 3.19.33 PM

You can of course play around with it any way you want…but I have one more important step before you save it & make it your desktop pic!  You must change the dimensions of the collage, so that it doesn’t turn out blurry.  I just clicked and dragged the sides to make it rectangular, similar to the dimensions of my desktop screen.

Now, click “Save” at the top, and then find it in your files, and right click on it, to find “Set Desktop Picture”.  Depending on what computer you have, you may need to go into your setting to do this.

I just grabbed a whole bunch of images I liked from my tumblr.  It took some playing around with to get them the exact way I wanted.  I considered if the picture had lots in it, which colours it was, and how similar it was to other images around it.  For example, I didn’t want to have all pink pictures in one area, and not anywhere else.  Just fiddling….

VOILA!

Screen shot 2013-02-24 at 2.44.24 PM

They are a little time consuming to make them just the way you want them (because I’m a bit of a perfectionist), but so worth it!  I even fiddled around with the size of my desktop icons to make the bottom pictures show better…

But, they are so cool looking!  You can do it with absolutely any images you’d like, including ones of your own.  I’ve got my fav youtuber (Zoella), T. Swift, and Gossip Girl’s S & B.  I also have my painting inspo, and a few things I’m currently drooling over.  The possibilites are endless, and they turn out great….oh, and it’s free!

DIY No-Snag Hair Ties

Hey guys!  I found this blog you might like.  I just love the style that she writes in, and she has great ideas.  Her name is Kim, and her blog is loveumadly.  She did a DIY post on no-snag hair ties, which have been really popular lately.  I’ve seen them in lots of stores in my mall, and I know they are sold at Anthropologie too.  They are marketed as a ‘no snag hair tie’.  The tutorial shows that you can use what ever colour of elastic you want, so they are very versatile too.  Plus, they look almost like stacking bracelets when they’re on your wrist because they don’t look like hair ties.  They seem a little overpriced for hair ties, so the DIY is great!

Here’s a link to it!!

Pic is from here.

Will you be trying it out!?  It seems super easy!

Thanks Kim!  This is amazing!

Talk to you soon!
